My Favorite Yoga Mat
Having the right mat for hot yoga or any fitness regime is really important. I have given this mat as gifts to my mom and sister and now my daughter who practices yoga has one too!
Yes, it’s pricey. But in my opinion, it’s worth it!
I have had plenty of cheap mats over the years and they just end up falling apart. During covid when I first started teaching online in my basement, all I had was an old cheap mat and it lasted a few weeks before it disintegrated into tiny little crumbles on my floor.
I decided to take the plunge and order a Lululemon mat since it’s a known and trusted yoga brand. I fell in love instantly with the 5 mm mat. It is a nice cushiony thickness that doesn’t slide around on the floor. It’s durable and has held up through ALL the sit ups, mountain climbers, inchworms, bridges and so much more mat work that I have done during Covid.
When I got back into hot yoga after the pandemic, I wanted to get a second mat so that I could leave my “work” mat in my studio and my “play” mat in my car. So…I went on a hunt to find a new mat.
First I tried the Athleta mat which was a good fit, but it’s too stretchy - when I would get into a lunge position (warrior 2) and my two feet on opposite ends of the mat, the mat would stretch so that I was unable to hold the pose.
Next I tried the Vuori mat which I did like the look and feel of, but I was disappointed that after one hot yoga session, my may was stained with sweat. Granted I did purchase a light color and maybe had I gotten black or dark grey, it would not have shown. The sweat stains did not fade over time and even after washing my brand new mat, I could still see the discoloration. I had to send that mat back.
Finally, I decided to go back to the Lululemon 5mm mat and I am back in love! It’s the best!!
I don’t get any kickback from Lulu if you decide to purchase, but if you do, please lmk what you think!
