Benefits of Working Out at Home

 

We live in a busy world with responsibilities, deadlines, and constant movement. Finding time to prioritize our well-being can be a challenging endeavor. And the key to living a healthy lifestyle is consistency in our daily habits.

What if the key to unlocking your health potential is nestled right within the comfort of your own home?

In recent years, the landscape of fitness has undergone a remarkable transformation, and the spotlight is now shining on a convenient, accessible, and endlessly adaptable solution: working out from home.

I am still in shock that I enjoy working out in this virtual capacity, but it’s a great fit for me and my clients.

I LOVE people - I love the energy of sharing space with other humans. BUT I also really value convenience and time with my family. If you had told me prior to the pandemic that I would someday teach online fitness, I would not have believed you. But since March of 2020, it has been my main form of fitness and I absolutely love it. I still have my community - the classes are live so we get to chat and stay connected. It’s inspiring to see other people on screen working hard.

I roll out of bed at 5:30, make my morning cocktail and I’m in my basement studio by 5:50 just in time to open up my zoom room and welcome in my Fit Zone Friends.

I teach at 6 and 8am, and in time time between, I help my daughters get out the door to school. If the pandemic had not happened, I might have missed this precious time with them. I get to feed them breakfast, do their hair and help them pack lunches. I am so grateful for this detail.

I have witnessed the incredible impact of home workouts for myself and my clients. Maybe you love your gym or you’re in a groove with a trainer, and if so, rock on!!

No commuting time: Working out at home eliminates the need to travel to a gym, saving you time and energy.

No overcomplication: Being home - there’s no need to carry all your shower essentials and no chance that you’ll forget something important like a bra!

Workout on your schedule: With online fitness classes, participants can choose sessions that fit their daily routine, making it easier to maintain consistency.

Shorter workouts: Home workouts can be more time-efficient, with many effective routines lasting 30-45 minutes or less. I always used to do an hour session, but we can be just as effective in less time.

Eliminate waiting: No need to wait for equipment or deal with crowded gyms, allowing for a smoother and quicker workout experience.

No expensive gym fees: Home workouts eliminate the need for a gym membership, helping individuals save money in the long run. Often, people pay for a full gym membership when all they want is access to the fitness classes. You are paying for the pool, the sauna, the upkeep of all the machines, etc. With online fitness, you are simply supporting a small business like Fit Zone - getting creative workouts with modifications and the reliability of consistent sweat sessions.

Minimal equipment: Many effective home workouts require minimal or no equipment, reducing the need for costly gym gear. Joan’s Fit Zone Classes range from $5-20/class depending on how often you attend. Great deal!

Convenience / Flexibility

No commute to the gym. No barriers. No muss, no fuss.

As long as you can get yourself out of bed and onto zoom, voila! You’re in!!

If you can’t join a live class, there’s usually a pre-recorded on demand option. Nothing gets in the way!

If you travel, you can take your workout with you rather than having to skip or gamble on finding a good option where you are. I love staying consistent no matter what life throws at me.

Family Friendly

Home workouts allow family members to see you exercising and even join in, promoting a healthy and active example for everyone in the household.

Prior to the pandemic, my girls didn’t really know what my classes were all about. I taught a sculpt class at a yoga studio, so they thought I taught yoga. NOPE! I would try to explain what was involved, but they never really got it.

Until they got to see me in action every day. During Covid, my girls would often join me (not on camera) for workouts. Now, they see me as they leave for school - and I often get to say “have a great day, sweetie” between sets.

When my nephew stayed with us, he was able to see me workout, and even join in the fun. He knows how to do down dog and plank - so cute!! He sees his mommy and daddy exercising daily at their home gym as well. I think it’s so important to model the behaviors we want our kids to eventually adopt. My girls know that fitness and wellness are values in our family and I have a feeling they will prioritize exercise when they grow up too.

Online Fitness Community

Many fitness platforms offer a sense of community through virtual classes, messenger chats and social media groups, fostering motivation and accountability.

Nothing compares to being together IRL, but as long as you are intentional about getting community in other areas of your life, a virtual fitness community can be a true blessing in your life.

In our community, we have people from Issaquah - most of my clients from the pre-pandemic days. We have participants from all over the US - from Florida to Arizona and everywhere in between. We also have members from Brazil, The Netherlands and the UK!! How cool is that!

Adaptability

Easy adjustments: Home workouts can be adapted to various fitness levels, making them suitable for beginners to advanced individuals. And no judgement or explanation necessary - you do you!

Weather-independent: Unlike outdoor workouts, home workouts are not affected by weather conditions, providing a consistent exercise option year-round.

Take it anywhere: I have taught my online fitness classes from my back yard, my front porch, my best friend’s kitchen, vacation homes, family’s homes, and hotel gyms. All you need is some space and internet connection!
